Tortoise Diseases

This section is not intended to be comprehensive, but to give an idea about how common problems can be cured. Many vets are not conversant with specific tortoise problems.  Therefore, it is recommended that a vet who has studied reptilian medicine should be consulted. Alternatively, go to your local vet and ask him to ring a specialist for advice on treatment. With common sense and helpful veterinary backup, it is often possible to treat your own animals.

Note: Many problems that require veterinary help also need good husbandry in addition to effect a quick and /or permanent cure, particularly, the effective use of basking lamps.
